Since 22 October 2026, Kayts has its own app for Windows 10 and 11. It is a beta: everything you have on kayts.ai, in a window of its own, with a few things a browser tab can't do. You can download it here.
Its own window
Kayts sits on the taskbar, apart from your browser tabs, with a light or a dark icon (Settings → General → App icon). It opens in the light theme, as kayts.ai does, and keeps the theme you pick in Settings. When you close the window, Kayts stays in the tray by the clock, so it is ready the moment you need it; Quit Kayts in the tray icon's menu closes it for good.
At the top left there is a menu (≡) with everything the app does, and Back and Forward arrows that move between your chats. On kayts.ai in the browser, Back and Forward now move between chats too.
A quick chat from anywhere
Press Alt+Space in any program and a small box appears over everything else. Type a question and press Enter: it starts a new chat in Kayts, and the window comes forward with the answer on its way. Esc, or a click anywhere else, closes the box. If another program already uses Alt+Space, the shortcut is Ctrl+Alt+Space; the menu shows which one you have.
Sign in through your browser
The app never asks for your password. "Sign in or sign up" opens kayts.ai in your browser, where you sign in the way you always do: Google, ORCID iD, a password or a code from your email. Kayts then asks whether to connect Kayts for Windows to your account; after you allow it, the browser hands the app a one-time code and the app gets a session of its own.
You stay in control of it. In the chat, Settings → Account → Connected apps lists the apps signed in with your account, and Remove access signs one out within a minute. You can also try the app without an account first, as on kayts.ai.
Always up to date
The chat inside the app is the one on kayts.ai, so every new feature reaches the app the moment it is on the site. The app itself checks for a new version when it starts, downloads it in the background and installs it when you quit. Help → About Kayts shows your version and the update as it downloads, with Restart to update once it is ready.
Version 0.1.1, out the same day, brings security improvements to the app. If you installed 0.1.0, it updates itself; there is nothing you need to do.
Installing it
The installer is about 120 MB and installs Kayts for your Windows user, with no administrator rights needed. The app isn't signed with a paid certificate yet, so the first time Windows may say it protected your PC: choose More info, then Run anyway. A version in the Microsoft Store, without that warning, is on its way.
Apps for macOS and Linux come next. Until then, and on any other device, Kayts works in your browser at kayts.ai.
